The Mighty Beaver

This is a picture of the North American beaver. I chose to use the beaver as an image of Canada's identity because I believe it represents us well.
First off, the beaver is usually considered synonymous with Canada because it resides in many parts of Canada, so our country is brought to mind when one views the beaver. Next, the beaver is an intelligent, resourceful and enduring creature who defends its territory with pride, just like Canadians. The presence of beavers is also considered a Canadian stereotype, but its presence actually shows how similar Canada is to many other countries, as the beaver is found in America, and many parts of Eurasia. Also the beaver has a built in hammer and chainsaw. Thats pretty awesome. Image Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beaver#Habitat

    1. Hi Anthony,

I'm glad to see you responding to blog posts. Why do you agree that the beaver represents Canada well? Can you build on some of Anthony's ideas?

  2. Hi Josh,

This is a thoughtful post about the Canadian identity and the symbolism of the beaver. I really liked your point about the beaver being found in other countries and how it represents Canada's similarities to other nations. I wonder if you could provide some examples to support your claim that Canadians are intelligent, resourceful and enduring.

I laughed out load at your last two sentences. :)

Thanks for a unique title and remembering to label your post.

  3. I think that the beaver represents Canada well too because as you said "the beaver is an intelligent, resourceful and enduring creature" and I think that represents Canada because Canada is one of the most resourceful countries having all the land that we have.

    1. When there is a threat to the land Canadians hold dear they are quick to react and fight against this threat. This was shown during WWII when Canadians fought with pride against the power hungry Nazis, who threatened the world with plans of total domination.
