         I believe the Holocaust was the single most horrific event in the history of all humanity. This is because over 5 000 000 jewish people were murdered just because they were jewish. It is hard to think about such an evil time in history. However there are many lessons we can learn so history doesnt get repeated, such as how powerful false propaganda can be. The Nazi party needed someone to blame the great depression and the loss of world war one on so they chose the jews. They then put up false propaganda that made the public hate jewish people. I personally think an event like this wont happen again because of social media, it is so easy to communicate with people halfway across the world now, if this tool had of been in place in the 30's and 40's I believe the holocoast wouldnt have happened. I now dedicate this post to all the Jewish peopkle who lost there lives from this evil event.

The Raid on Dieppe 1942

The raid on Dieppe in 1942 was a crutial point in the war and I believe it was a military succes. The reason why this raid took place was to win back France to open and eastern front because the Soviet's were suffering heavy losses. By opening a second front the nazis could be drawn away from the wesern front and the nazis could be easier to defeat because there would be less german men on each front. So on August 19th 1942 the alies landed on the beaches, they sufferend heavy losses however with this tremendous sacrifice they learned a great deal of knowledge which would benefit them greatly on D day almsot 2 years later. If this raid did not take place, the allies would have got crushed 2 years later when they tried again, the reality is if they didnt send these men at first, the allies wouldn't have known that they needed naval as well as aerial bombardemnt, better equipment, and more experience. For this 1 reason, I believe the raid on Dieppe was a militay succes.

During World War 2, many combatant as well as non combatant prisoners were heald in prison camps. There are many examples of  poor treatment that these people went through such as the allied soldiers caught  by The Empire of Japan in the pacific. In the eyes of the Japanese, these men were considered cowards for surrendering because the japanese never surrendered. As a result, the soldiers were murdered, beat, forced into hard labour, inclined to medical experiments, were given poor medical treatment and as you can see in the picture above, starved. However, in 1929 the Empire of Japan signed the Geneva Conventions stating:

Prisoners of war must be:

• Shown respect at all times
• Allowed to notify their next of kin and the International Red Cross of their capture.
• Allowed to correspond with relatives and to receive relief parcels.
• Given adequate food and clothing
• Provided with shelter equivalent to those of their captor's troops
• Given medical care
• Paid for any work they do
• Sent home if seriously ill or wounded provided they agree not to resume active military duties afterwards.
• Quickly released and sent home when the war is over.
• Prisoners of war must not be:
• Forced to give any information except their name, rank and number
• Deprived of money or valuables without a receipt and guarantee they will be returned at the time of release
• Given individual privileges other than on grounds of health, sex, age or military rank
• Held in close confinement e.g. solitary confinement unless they have broken any laws. They can however have their freedom restricted for security reasons.
• Be forced to do military or dangerous or unhealthy work.

As you can see, the Japanese didn't follow the Geneva Convention and treated these men very poorly.

A Disappionting Time in Canadian History

                                                
The Ms St. Louis was carrying 937 jewish refugees to Cuba in Spring, 1939, they were denied entry and tried to gain entry to other Western Countries. They tried Canada but unfortunately the government wanted nothing to do with these jewish people, this is because most of the english speaking Canadians were anti-semenis. Prime minister Mackenzie King didnt want to lose votes so he completely ignored these jewish people in need. I Believe, if Canada hadnt been judgemental and let these people into the country, they would have saved all 937 lives instead of forcing them back to europe where they were to get slaughtered by the Nazis. This is a disappointing time in Canadaian History, however we can only learn from this and never repeat this again.

RemembranceDay

This image represents that remembering our troops by showing our respect is an easy and impactful thing to do. Wearing a poppy on Remembrance Day is and easy thing to do, the reason this is so resepectful and impactful is because our troops have fought and lost their lives so we can be free today. If you wear a poppy on Remembrance Day you can so your respect and show how happy you are to be free.

Canada before WW1

                                        What Did Canada Look Like Before World War One

    Before World War One, Canada was very two sided, there was the French Canadians and there was the English Canadians. We were emerging from  British Colonial rule, which ment our foreign policy was dictacted by Britian. We were also extremely racist and disriminatory towards first naions peoples, we took their land and forced them onto smaller areas of land. The Canadian Identity before World War One was very uncertain because we as a country hadn't done anything import in the world so people viewed us as Britians little child.
    Some challanges we faced were, balancing the different perspectives between the french and the english. This would prove to be an extremely hard task is the years to come, especially during World War One when conscription came into play. Another challange we faced was, inequality between rich and poor and men and woman. Woman could not vote and did not have a say in how the country was governed which is stupid because they make up half of the countries population. Another challange was when the British asked the canadians for money to build up there navy. The English Canadians were all for it and would be offeneded if the government said no because they wanted to support the britsih because they were from British descent. However the French Canadians were insulted when asked if they should give moeny to the british because they were not from british descent. Canada then put the money towards there own navy which consisted of 6 naval ships which would be at britians disposal if a war broke out. This didnt please the british or the french so neither side was happy.
    As you can see, Canada was a tad confused about what there identiy actually was before World War One.
