WHAT WOMEN DID WHILE MEN WHERE AT WAR

This is a photo of Rosie the riveter.  Rosie the riveter is a cultural icon for the U.S., representing the American women who worked in factories during World War II, many of who produced weapons and war supplies. These women sometimes took entirely new jobs replacing the male workers who were in the war. Rosie the Riveter is commonly used as a symbol of feminism and women's economic power. This poster was firstly made to advertise that women can now work in help of the war effort in making weapons and war suplies. Women had to do this to make sure the allied forces get the suplies they need to win aythe war. Theya also had to make money for themselves and sometimes there children. This allowed then to support themselves finacially.

  3. Vann, good summary of the role of Rosie the Riveter iconography. Do you think this image is still effective today?
