Pierre Trudeau

“If Canada is to survive, it can only survive in mutual respect and in love with one another “ (Pierre Trudeau 1976).  This quote shows how much Trudeau wanted Canadians to be treated as equals.  Trudeau had a vision for Canada, where all people were treated equally.  Throughout his stay in Parliament he had made huge steps for women's rights, decriminalized homosexuality, attempted to help aboriginal's and made multiculturalism and bilingualism government policies.  Pierre showed through his actions that he valued the equality of all people.  Shown by this quote he feels that Canada will only survive and prosper if all people could be accepted and given equal rights.

  1. I agree that Canada's survival depends on mutual respect. Despite many disagreements, Canada has been able to come together to maintain unity. For example, some people in Quebec have been/are dissatisfied with their place in Canada. I think that Canada has worked hard in an attempt to meet their needs. Specifically, I think of the Meech Lake Accord.

  2. Do you think that Pierre Trudeau was the Prime minister that really made people equal? Or do you think that he just picked up on what other prime minister were already working towards

  3. I agree that Pierre worked hard to help women's rights and the biggest thing he achieved while working towards that was making it so that all women received the same pay as men
